That fire started on Saturday afternoon local time and had burned <a href=\"https:\/\/app.watchduty.org\/i\/112554\" target=\"_blank\"><u>over 3,500 acres<\/u><\/a> by early Sunday morning, according to the Watch Duty app. Swaths of Spokane are under Level 3 <a href=\"https:\/\/srec911.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/instant\/lookup\/index.html?appid=337af083184c474d9d9181bb44f957b0\" target=\"_blank\"><u>evacuation orders<\/u><\/a>, which read: &#8220;Leave NOW! Bob Ferguson <a href=\"https:\/\/governor.wa.gov\/news\/2026\/governor-ferguson-declares-statewide-wildfire-emergency-issues-statewide-burn-ban\" target=\"_blank\"><u>declared<\/u><\/a> a statewide wildfire emergency. Ferguson <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovBobFerguson\/status\/2083803316082139356\" target=\"_blank\"><u>said<\/u><\/a> he would travel to Spokane on Sunday morning and added: &#8220;If you are in the area, please continue to be vigilant and follow directions of emergency personnel.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The three fires \u2014 named the Old Trails, Fairview and Autumn Lane \u2014 have been driven by strong winds and low humidity. &#8220;I was sitting near an elementary school and saw a wall of flames east of the school and just a cascade of black smoke and a wall of flames coming toward me,&#8221; said Alexandra Duggan, a public safety reporter for <em>The Spokesman-Review<\/em>, a daily newspaper in Spokane.<\/p>\n<p>The Old Trails Fire <a href=\"https:\/\/parks.wa.gov\/find-parks\/state-parks\/riverside-state-park\" target=\"_blank\"><u>burned<\/u><\/a> at Riverside State Park, to the northwest of Spokane. Overnight, Washington Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Jessica Walston told CNN that the fire was threatening up to 5,000 structures.<\/p>\n<p>The city has opened its convention center as a shelter for people displaced by the fires. On Saturday, Commissioner of Public Lands Dave Upthegrove <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/reel\/1045015971607791\" target=\"_blank\"><u>said<\/u><\/a> firefighters were tackling 10 large fires across the state.<\/p>\n<p><!-- END ID=\"MID-STORY-RECOMMENDATIONS-MOUNT-PIANO\" CLASS=\"MID-STORY-RECOMMENDATIONS-MOUNT-PIANO\" ARIA-LABEL=\"RECOMMENDED STORIES\" --><\/p>\n<p>Washington is <a href=\"https:\/\/governor.wa.gov\/news\/2026\/governor-ferguson-declares-statewide-wildfire-emergency-issues-statewide-burn-ban\" target=\"_blank\"><u>in the midst<\/u><\/a> of a record-setting statewide drought, leading the governor to issue a statewide burn ban on Saturday.
