In recent months he has expressed regret for formerly supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/donaldtrump\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Donald Trump<\/a>, and just last week <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/tucker-carlson-republican-party-podcast-support-2da45ec63516d0cc9f0d2ea1891839d2\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">said<\/a> that there was \u201cno chance\u201d he would support Republicans \u2013 or Democrats \u2013 in the midterm elections this November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">He escalated that line of thought in an interview with the Columbia Journalism Review (CJR) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjr.org\/the-interview\/all-i-have-is-the-power-to-talk-and-be-heard-tucker-carlson-interview-pitying-trump-podcast-new-third-party-nicotine-pouch-alp-fox-news-fired-anti-war-gaza-immigration.php\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">published<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"e1deee49-44a6-40e0-9823-5d1f3d0ffb71\" data-spacefinder-role=\"richLink\" data-spacefinder-type=\"model.dotcomrendering.pageElements.RichLinkBlockElement\" class=\"dcr-1oq85qr\">\n<div data-print-layout=\"hide\" data-link-name=\"rich-link-4 | 4\" data-component=\"rich-link\" data-name=\"placeholder\" class=\"dcr-1rx5ky9\">\n<div data-format-theme=\"5\" data-format-design=\"0\" data-format-display=\"0\" class=\"dcr-15vltj4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2026\/jun\/24\/marjorie-taylor-greene-republican-party-split\" class=\"dcr-f35c0u\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"dcr-vvxpdt\">\n<div class=\"dcr-6z6e7\">\n<div class=\"dcr-zh9rih\">Marjorie Taylor Greene joins Tucker Carlson in breaking with Republican party<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"dcr-oj13vq\">\n<div class=\"dcr-ef9nua\">Read more<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">\u201cI do know what really matters is war and finance,\u201d he said, suggesting that pro-Israel donors had pressured Trump into attacking Iran. And \u201con those questions, the parties are in lockstep solidarity with each other. That\u2019s not a democracy. That\u2019s a one-party state posing as a democracy, and it needs to be broken, and there\u2019s going to be a third party, and I\u2019m going to do everything I can to bring that about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">He added: \u201cI\u2019m going to help build a third party. There should be a good-faith effort to figure out what benefits the country. I mean, if you make $60,000 a year, you\u2019re degraded. Your life expectancy has gone down, and the promise of your children\u2019s lives is likely gone. [\u2026] I officially don\u2019t care about Hamas. The US government should have, as its first priority, the welfare of its own people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Carlson, who has a habit of thinking out loud, did not elaborate. It is difficult to say if he was describing an actual project under way or just mooting the possibility. His remarks to CJR contradict an interview with the New York Times, in May, in which he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/02\/magazine\/tucker-carlson-interview-trump-iran.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">said<\/a>:\u201c[T]here should be a party that is speaking for most people. Am I going to build it? Absolutely not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Despite frequent speculation that he might seek the Republican nomination for president, Carlson has consistently denied that he has any political aspirations. He has, however, exercised other forms of political influence, both through his broadcasting and through behind-the-scenes lobbying of a president, Trump, who was once the most important nightly viewer of Carlson\u2019s show on Fox.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">In the CJR interview, Carlson acknowledged having tried to personally talk Trump out of military intervention in Iran. Their relationship has since broken down: \u201cI haven\u2019t spoken to him since the regime-change war began. That faction of the right \u2013 sometimes referred to as \u201cAmerica First\u201d, to distinguish it from Trump\u2019s \u201cmake America great again\u201d \u2013 has also expressed frustration that Trump\u2019s hardline immigration policies are not sufficiently radical.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">\u201cI\u2019m for less immigration,\u201d Carlson told CJR. \u201cIn fact, I\u2019m for ending all immigration today. I don\u2019t know how you can justify immigration when half of all white-collar jobs are going away because of AI. What are people going to do for a living?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">A lifelong, if unusually conservative, Episcopalian, Carlson has also leaned increasingly into a rhetoric of Christian nationalism, often citing Bible passages and suggesting that political leaders have lost sight of Christian ethics.
